Project Overview
Houlkair was commissioned to carry out a BC box and outdoor system replacement at a commercial property in Manchester, located next to St Peters Square. The project involved removing the existing system and installing new equipment along with associated pipework and controls.
The work included the decommissioning of the existing system, the removal of the existing BC box and services, and the installation of a new BC controller. As part of the upgrade, 105 metres of pipework was installed on the roof before the system was fully tested and handed over.
Challenges
The project presented several challenges due to both timing and working conditions. The roof installation took place in January during temperatures of -7°C, which made the external work more demanding.
In addition, the building remained a live office environment, meaning the internal work had to be completed outside of normal working hours. All installation activity was therefore scheduled across Saturday and Sunday, with the requirement that the system be completed before staff returned to the office on Monday.
The team also needed to complete harness training in order to safely work on a small section of the roof.
Solution and Approach
To ensure the project could be completed within the restricted timeframe, additional labour was assigned to the internal works. This allowed the team to work efficiently over the weekend and meet the required deadline.
Despite the tight schedule and challenging weather conditions, the work was completed on time and the system was ready for staff returning to the office on Monday.
