Project Overview
Houlkair was commissioned to carry out a new air conditioning installation at a commercial property in Tameside, close to Tameside College. The project involved replacing the existing system and installing new equipment to serve the space.
The work included the removal of existing FCUs, followed by the installation of a new Hybrid VRF system. This system consisted of 16 cassette units, 4 BC controllers and 1 central controller. In addition, one split system was installed to serve the comms room.
Once the installation was complete, the system was fully tested and handed over.
Challenges
One of the main challenges during the project was the limited space above the existing ceiling. The area was already heavily congested with services, which meant a significant amount of re-routing of existing services was required before the new system could be installed.
The project also had a tight schedule, as the installation needed to be completed before the start of the September term, when the new rooms would begin being used for teaching.
Solution and Approach
To overcome the congestion above the ceiling, the team coordinated closely with other companies on site to identify and agree on alternative service routes. This allowed the installation to progress while working around the existing infrastructure.
Results
Despite the challenges and tight schedule, the project was completed three weeks ahead of the handover date, ensuring the new system was ready before classes began in the newly completed rooms.
Additional Notes
As with many commercial projects, formal testimonials are often difficult to obtain. However, much of Houlkair’s work comes from repeat business, reflecting ongoing relationships with commercial clients.
